You know how sometimes you just want to escape real life for a couple of hours and lose yourself in a movie? Those days that you don’t want a deep, heavy plot that requires you to analyze every frame and piece of dialogue? That was me tonight. But thankfully I chose just the right movie to take in: Jon Favreau’s – Chef
I didn’t know anything about it going in, other than it was written/directed by Favreau, (that was really all I needed to know) some of the cast, and a teeny bit of the plot that I saw in the first teaser trailer.
I. Loved. it. LOVED!
Did I mention I loved it?
First, the cast. It is stellar. Favreau, Scarlett Johansson, Robert Downey Jr (swoon) John Leguizamo, Sofia Vergara, and on and on… They all played off of each other perfectly. Not a weak link in the bunch.
Second, the story. It’s funny, and a little “real” at times, and sweet, and mostly just fun. I would say I was sitting in the dark with a huge grin on my face for about 90% of the movie.
Third, the soundtrack. It is kickass! Filled with Cuban rhythms and N’awlins jazz. (by the third tune I was thinking… “I really need to own this soundtrack”)
And then there is the food. O.M.G. I can’t count the number of times I gasped and/or moaned at the screen. I may have sworn a couple of times actually. Multiple foodgasms …
I walked out of the theatre wanting to A) find/make/eat the perfect cuban sandwich B) Go salsa dancing C) drive across the country in a food truck D) Watch the movie again.
This will definitely be added to my “food porn” collection as soon as it’s released on DVD.
If you’re looking for a fun, sweet, feel good movie. This is it. Go see it.
